Monday, September 23rd -- The Crazy Horse Monument is actually right next to the campground, so we decided to run down there really quick and take a look!
We didn't know anything about this park when we went in. We naively thought it was just the stone monument, and that's it. But there is so much more! There is a huge Native American Museum, with artwork, crafts, clothing, and everything else you can think of!

You can also watch a 20-minute video about the history of Crazy Horse, and this property where the monument is located. Chief Henry Standing Bear, a cousin to Crazy Horse, contracted Korczak Ziolkowski to carve the monument. The land was eventually deeded to a non-profit foundation headed by the Ziolkowski's, and their children and grand-children are now working on the carving that their ancestor started. There is also an Indian College on the property near the monument, which is not available to be toured. But you can tour the place where the Ziolkowski's lived and worked while working on the monument.
