They don't even have a gas station there! LOL.

In my efforts to find out more about this area, I found they do give tours of the site once a month. The tour bus leaves from Las Vegas, and you are not allowed to take cameras or cell phones on the bus with you!

Among other things, this area was once used by the government to test nuclear weapons. Now it is used for the National Stockpile. The road just seems to go on forever, off into oblivion. You can see more of the area on Google Maps. We found this area very interesting!

We finally made it to Tonopah! Whew! What should have taken us 6.5 hours, ended up taking us 9.5 hours. What a long day! And our very first true Boondocking spot! Not the greatest place, but certainly do-able!

We decided to travel up into Nevada for awhile, because their number of CoVid cases was very low, and we figured it was about the safest place we could be at this time. We got on the road about 9AM!
Our travel route from Bouse AZ to Tonopah NV
Just outside of Parker AZ, we drove past this old train trestle bridge! After that, we crossed into California for awhile!

Thursday, April 23, 2020 -- Ed went into town to do laundry and saw this truck at the laundromat. Turns out it belongs to the laundromat owner!
Antique truck in Bouse, Arizona
Ed had a very interesting story to share when he got home that day! He had gone into the supermarket next to the laundromat to get change for the machines, and overheard a guy asking the clerk if he had found any cigarettes outside. The clerk responded that he hadn't. When Ed left the store, the man was outside, and he asked Ed if he had a cigarette he could bum. Ed replied that he didn't. When Ed went to the laundromat, the owner was there trying to fix a water line outside. He asked for Ed's help with a few minor things, and then offered Ed $20 for helping him. Ed refused the money, but the man insisted and dropped it down to $10, which Ed accepted. The man said if he didn't want the money, then just pay it forward to someone else. Ed thought about the man looking for cigarettes, went into the store and bought a pack of cigarettes and a lighter, and took them outside to the man, who was still hanging around outside. Our Lord does work in mysterious ways!!

Ed found another great cookbook in the campground's book exchange. Modern Barbeque Cooking by Ed Bell. This book was published in the 1960's, but Mr. Bell really knew his stuff, and most of his tips can still be applied to charcoal cooking today!

<![CDATA[A visit to the Hospital, and some Off-Roading Fun!]]>Sat, 08 Aug 2020 21:00:00 GMThttp://overthehills2019.com/travel-blog/a-visit-to-the-hospital-and-some-off-roading-funTuesday, April 14, 2020 -- This morning when we went outside, we noticed this guy sitting on the ground right next to our steps!
Dead Scorpion found right outside our door!
He was pretty big, maybe about 4 inches long, and probably could have inflicted some serious pain! But he was dead. Not quite sure what killed him. But we were feeling very blessed that we didn't meet him while he was still alive!

What happened next is still a bit of a blur. Ed started to get abdominal pain in the afternoon. Kind of came and went, and we were unclear exactly what was causing the problem.
The next day, Ed was still getting abdominal pain, a little worse than the previous day. But still unclear what the problem was. In the afternoon, he decided he wanted to go to the hospital, so we drove all the way to Parker. But when he saw the tents outside the entrance, because of CoVid-19, he decided he didn't want to go in, so we drove back home.
On Thursday, the pain worsened again, and it finally became clear he was having trouble with his Gallbladder, but by this time, it had spread to his Pancreas as well. The standard remedy for this would have been Marshmallow Root, to add mucilage to help pass the offending Gallstone. But we didn't have any, so I looked for a substitute, which was Okra water. We didn't have any Okra either, but I went to the store and was able to find some frozen. But by the time I was finally able to get some Okra water in him, he was in so much pain, he asked again to go to the hospital. So at 9:00 pm, we drove to Parker and got him admitted.
Because of CoVid-19, I was not able to go into the hospital with him, which was a first for us. I had always been right by his side. But this time, General and I went home alone, to sit and wait for a text or phone call from Ed to say how he was doing.
On Friday, he was released from the hospital around 5PM. They didn't want him staying any longer because of the chance of getting the virus. He was still in a little bit of pain, but never enough that he needed to take anything for it. And by the next day, he was almost as good as new!
They did an abdominal CT scan a couple hours after he was admitted to the hospital. It did not show any Gallstones, so the offending stone must have passed thru before he got his scan. They were totally confused what was causing all the pain. LOL. But the very nice nurse who did his discharge, was so kind to send him home with 2 masks, one for him and one for me! So at least now we had some masks to wear in public!
Finally got some masks, but from a hospital visit!
Sunday, April 19, 2020 -- The Bouse Community Park we were staying at actually had a book exchange! You could take whatever books you wanted, and leave whatever books you wanted to get rid of. Ed borrowed this book and took pictures of his favorite recipes!

Of course, this recipe would be my favorite!

When Ed got back home, he was admiring the scratches down the side of the truck, while I noticed the dent in the bottom panel of the back door. I guess alot of wives would have been pissed about the damages, but to me, it just adds character and a story to our truck's history!

Traveling from Quartzsite to Bouse, Arizona
Bouse Community Park has water and electric sites for $10 per day. While it was getting hot in Arizona, it was still cold where we wanted to go, so we decided to hang out here for a few more days, where we could run the AC, and wait for it to warm up where we were going.

We were very surprised at the differences between Quartzsite and Bouse, even though the two towns are only 45 minutes apart. One major difference is that after you go over Quinn Pass toward Bouse, you no longer see Saguaro Cacti! Another difference is that in Quartzsite, we never saw Quail, but in Bouse, they were frequent visitors at the park!

We were also very surprised at the differences in the plants! Here is a Mesquite tree in bloom, while the ones in Quartzsite hadn't even started to bloom yet!
