Sunday, July 14th -- Ed left early on his hike, and he texted me with progress reports at he went along. First he followed the trail of the 1907 Object Lesson Road, which was a test to convince voters that better roads should be built.
Then he came up on the Historic Cumberland Gap, where they have a sign posted.
Then he hiked the hardest climb to the Tri-State Peak, which is a covered area with plaques for each of the three states.

Ed is very proud of himself for making it to the top! And I am proud of him too, since that is quite an accomplishment for a 65 year old man who has had heart surgery and a stroke!
They have a guest registry box there, but since he had no pen with him, he left one of our Over The Hills business cards in the box.
On his way back down the hill, he visited Fort Foote, which wasn't much to see. And he found Indian Rock, which was somewhat hidden, and marked with a plaque on it. Then he made his way back to the truck.

Since he was already about half-way to the Pinnacle Overlook, he decided to go the rest of the way up the hill to see that too, before he came home. From Pinnacle Overlook, you can see all three states as they come together. Here is a view of Cumberland Gap TN.
When he got home, I loaded General into the truck and we went to the picnic area so he could play in the water. On my way home, I stopped at the Visitors Center again and bought the book "My Blessed, Wretched Life: The Rebecca Boone Story". It had been calling to me ever since I first saw it, and I couldn't pass it up. LOL.
