Friday, November 22, 2019 (continued) -- When we left Paintbrush Alley, we headed back over to Miss Hattie's Bordello Museum for our 2pm tour! Both the tour and this blog entry are rated PG.
The Hatton's bought this building shortly after their marriage, and Mr. Hatton ran his Tavern in the downstairs area, while the couple lived upstairs. Soon after, they divorced. Mr. Hatton kept the downstairs area for his Tavern, and Mrs. Hatton kept the upstairs. Miss Hattie, as she became known, decided to turn to the "oldest profession" for her income, and the Bordello was opened in 1902. It was in continuous operation until 1952 when it was shut down by the Texas Rangers. The building remained must unchanged, until Legend Jewelers bought the building, and opened up the upstairs area as a Museum. Some of the furniture is original to the Bordello.

Next to the Dining Room is a very small kitchen, hardly functional for more than just a snack. The tour guide said Miss Hattie had most meals catered in.

Next is the one and only bathroom on this whole floor!
In Miss Blue's room, almost everything is blue. She was considered the star attraction, since she entertained by bathing herself in her own personal tub.
Miss Mable came to work at the Bordello to raise money for the treatment of her husband's consumption. She had a child while in "service". Her husband did recover, and they rejoined each other in New Mexico and lived normal lives. Her husband, being very grateful for what she had done, accepted her child as his own.
Miss Kitty inherited a ranch from one of her regular customers. Descendants of Kitty and her three children still live in and around San Angelo today, and still run that ranch!
Miss Goldie was very beautiful and popular, earning her the highest price of any of the girls, and her very own private parlor! She had marriage proposals from many worthy men, but was eventually lured away from Miss Hattie's by a wealthy rancher who promised to leave her everything in his will. He ended up not keeping his promise, and Miss Goldie returned to Miss Hattie's, where she stayed until it was closed in 1952. After the closing, Miss Goldie could be found selling flowers on the streets close by.

Miss Rosie's room has direct access to the catwalk out the window, which was used in times of police raids to escape to the building next door. During one raid, Miss Rosie fell from the catwalk, 15 feet down thru a skylight into the tavern below. She was treated for minor injuries by a traveling doctor, who then decided to stay in San Angelo and opened a medical practice here.
Next was the men's lounge, where they would play poker and smoke cigars while waiting.
In Miss Hattie's parlor, the fainting couch is original to the Bordello. Miss Hattie was all business, and most of her politics for preserving her business took place in this room. When needed, her adjoining bedroom became another source of political persuasion.
