Monday, October 14th -- We try to visit Visitor Centers in each town we go to, because the folks are a wealth of information about their local area and can really let you know about the awesome places to visit during your stay!
Joplin is VERY proud of being on Route 66, and you can see that all over town, including at the Visitor Center where they gave us a Route 66 bag with a coffee mug, coaster, magnet, postcards, and a bunch of other stuff!

We took General to the Carthage Battlefield site to walk around for a bit. It was a very small area, but had some great information about the local Civil War battle back in 1861.

While we were in Carthage, we decided to take a look around town. It's a smaller town than Joplin, but has this really awesome historic town square, which surrounds this beautiful historic courthouse!

Carthage also has the historic Boots Court Motel on Route 66. Clark Gable once stayed there in Room #6, and they say the room is still decorated as it would have been when he stayed there!
