Wednesday, August 14th -- We got going as early as we could and headed right downtown to catch the ferry.
General was a little nervous at first, but then laid right down. There were no seats left on the boat, so we stood in the cargo area. The view from the boat, as we neared the island, was awesome! Trying to take a picture of the Grand Hotel is easiest while on the water, the hotel is just so huge!
Round Island Lighthouse is another popular site!

And I'm sure this site doesn't happen everyday, so we were blessed to this this schooner heading out to sea.
We got to the dock, and set about finding bicycles and a cart for General to ride in.
But we didn't have any luck. I had seen a blog article that this was possible, so we didn't hesitate to bring General along with us. If you have a small dog, you wouldn't have any trouble. One of the other things we were looking forward to seeing during our stay in St Ignace was the Headlands International Dark Sky Park in Mackinaw City (back over the bridge). We had been looking forward to this for quite some time. We chose a spot away from the rest of the crowd, right next to the water, and got all our stuff set up. Ed would take photos and I would do time lapse video. General played in the crystal clear water (with a slight blue tint) while we waited for the sun to go down.
And we waited. And just as the sun was going down over the horizon, we looked behind us to see a full moon coming up in the other direction. LOL. There would be no dark sky that evening. LOL. So we all went home and crashed.
