Tuesday, November 5, 2019 -- We knew we only had 3 days to explore the area, since our campground was totally packed and we couldn't stay any longer, so we decided to see everything we could possibly see while we were there!
We found an awesome park to walk General at the Riverside Park Complex!
The Calcasieu River was really beautiful!
Complete with water lilies!
And we totally fell in love with the natural landscape of the area!

Next, we were off to the Mardi Gras Museum, which was our main reason for coming to this area! We were greeted by the mechanical Mardi Gras Alligator!
Once again, we took hundreds of pictures in this museum, because all of the costumes were amazing! But here is a sampling, so you can see a little bit of what is available.

And here is one of many awesome head/shoulder pieces!
They also have a room full of children's costumes!
And a wall of conceptual drawings! It was awesome to see the design process from the very beginning!
They also had some clothing and head pieces you could try on! Doesn't Ed look awesome in that tux jacket?
And we learned all about King Cakes and Twelfth Night celebrations! And getting the recipe for King Cakes was an added bonus!

For lunch, we chose Steamboat Bill's. We were pretty nervous about trying cajun food, because we had never had it before, and thought it may be too spicy. But we were determined to give it a try! Ed got the Chicken and Sausage Gumbo served over rice.
And I got the House Potato, which was a huge baked potato smothered with Shrimp Etoufee (pronounced AY-too-FAY), and topped with Popcorn Shrimp.
While Gumbo is more like a soup, Etoufee is more like a gravy. Both meals were awesome, and not spicy at all. Turns out, the restaurant has their special seasoning blend sitting on each table, so you can add more to your own taste. Yeah Cajun food!!! We are hooked!
When we got home, I took General for a walk around our campground. So pretty, with the Cypress trees and Spanish moss!
The Calcasieu West Fork winds its way around the campground.
We did spot some deer, but they stay more up the road toward the gatehouse, and don't come into the campsites.
