Sunday, October 27th -- We decided it was too early yet to start heading to our winter location, so we moved east to explore some more of the Southern States!
Our next location was Jefferson, TX and Johnson Creek Campground!
As we were leaving Kingston, we stopped at a Jimmy's Egg in Durant for breakfast. The place was packed, but we actually found the food to be not good at all! Back on the road again, we got gas right across from the Choctaw Casino in Durant.

We had only been on the road for a short time, when a truck pulled up along side us and started motioning back towards our trailer. I looked in the side mirror and saw a bunch of smoke coming from the rear of the trailer. We immediately pulled off to the side of the road, which was a very busy highway!
This is what we found!
Since we had put brand new tires on the trailer when we bought it only 8 months ago, we were totally unprepared for this situation! Ed tried to use the jack that came with our truck to jack up the trailer axle, but found that it would not work because it had a very smooth rounded top and it kept sliding around. So we called a tow truck place to see if they could come out and jack up the axle for us. They wanted $180 for the service call, but we told them to come ahead.
While we were waiting, a gentleman pulled up behind us. He was heading the other way on the highway, saw us sitting there and decided to turn around and see if he could help. He just happened to have a brand new floor jack in his truck. Ed used that to jack up the trailer axle, and took the bad tire off and put on the spare tire. But then he realized the lugs which fit our regular rims, did not fit our spare quite so well. After thanking the gentleman for his assistance, and canceling the tow truck call, we limped the trailer to the nearest welcome center, which was less than 2 miles away. We asked the lady inside the welcome center if we could drop the trailer there for a little bit. She agreed, and we headed to Walmart to get a new tire. While at Walmart, we also bought our own floor jack. We got back to the trailer, got the tire changed, and congratulated ourselves on saving $50. Then we realized later that if the gentleman had not stopped with the floor jack, we would have had to spend $180 for the service call PLUS $130 for the tire and jack -- so we actually saved $180, not just $50!! Thank our LORD for good samaritans!! The guy that pulled up along side us on the highway saved us a ruined rim, and the guy with the floor jack saved us an expensive service call! THANK YOU!!
All of the work with the tire made us very late in getting to our next campground. We spent the last hour and a half driving in the dark, and had alot of trouble getting the trailer backed into our spot. Our neighbor came out and got in his truck, and pointed it at our driveway so Ed could see better to back in! Another good samaritan!! And a very blessed day, because it could have gone so much worse!!
