Friday, November 15, 2019 -- Today we decided to do something completely different!
We headed for the Grapeland Safari, because we had never been to one of these before, and I thought it would be a great opportunity for Ed to get pictures of some of these animals that we don't normally see. We were very surprised that it was so expensive -- they charge by the person, and not by the vehicle! And then you still have to buy the food for the animals, if you want to give them any!
So we got our instructions, signed our waiver, and headed into the gate. And the animals came right over to us! And right off the bat, this camel sticks his head right inside the truck and picked up that cup of food from the cup holder! LOL.
So... no more food! But we sat there for a few minutes, just watching the animals wandering around us! Pretty awesome!

Then came the slobber, which wasn't terribly bad. It washes right off, right?
But after that, the camel actually started chewing on the side mirror!! We started freaking out, so I turned the truck around and headed back to the gate where we came in.
One last picture of some reindeer before we left!
Did we learn anything from this experience? Yes! Keep moving, and don't let them crowd around you! There were buffalo and other animals on the other side of the yard that we didn't even get to see because we got overwhelmed by the experience.

After that, we decided to go explore the town of Crockett, which was about 12 miles away. There were a couple of old homes that we thought were open for tours.
But when we got to the Downes-Aldrich House, there was no one there to let us in, no hours posted, and I couldn't find a phone number to call anyone. So I guess it isn't open to the public. What a shame! This was an awesome house!
A beautiful example of Gingerbread!
