We visited several attractions while in the Raleigh, NC area and had a wonderful time hanging out with our Granddaughter.
Yates Mill Park was beautiful! A very large pond leading to the mill, with walkways all around the pond and thru the grounds. The Mill was an easy walk from the parking lot, and very picturesque. We also saw many turtles, snakes, fish, and a Canadian Goose right on the dam. This park is free, but does not allow pets.
Bennett Place is an important American Civil War site. The House in the Horseshoe (Alston House) is an 18th century farmhouse that was actually involved in the Revolutionary War and has the bullet holes to prove it! The guided tour was free, although they do ask for a small donation. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the house, as well as various facts about living during that time period. They also have a small museum with some artifacts. ![]()
Roadside Treasures include this awesome piece of Americana on Route 751 heading toward Durham from the campground. There is a small place to pull of the side of the road right across the street, but the traffic is horrendous, so please be very careful!

And a piece of trivia for you! Goldston NC's claim to fame is that the country singer Charlie Daniels went to high school there and was in the 1955 graduating class! Awesome!
Overall, we had a great time in the Raleigh/Durham, NC area.
