Monday, August 26th -- We only had 1 day to explore in the Pepin area, so we crammed in everything we could! We tripped across something on the internet that looked really awesome. The Buena Vista Park Overlook in the nearby town of Alma. So we went to check that out.
Driving thru the town and seeing that it was set on the side of a hill. we immediately assumed the drive up to the overlook would be white knuckled. But it was a very nice drive, and once we got up to the top of the hill, we were once again looking at farmland. Not quite sure how that happened, since there were no other roads coming into these farms. LOL.
The view from the top was amazing! We were looking down on the Mississippi River and the town of Alma.
When we got back down the hill into town, we noticed this set of stairs going up to the next street level. It must have been a very important set of stairs to deserve a street name.

Alma was a very cute little town, with some awesome historical buildings. But unfortunately it wasn't really prospering and most of the shops were closed, even though we were there on a Monday.

We needed just a few groceries, so on our way back to Pepin, we had to cross the Mississippi River in order to get to the nearest grocery store.
Then we stopped at the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum in Pepin, which was a very small museum. Although it did have a lot of artifacts from that time period in Laura's life. Pepin WI is where Laura Ingalls was born and spent the first several years of her life.
