Friday, September 6th -- We woke up to see this fog rising off the prairie fields.
Then we took off to explore the downtown area! We went to the De Smet Cemetery first, and found the plot where Mr. and Mrs. Ingalls are buried, along with 2 of their daughters, and 1 grandchild. Mr. Ingalls, of course, has a Masonic headstone.
The downtown area has signs placed on several buildings. These signs give a picture of what that area looked like when Laura Ingalls Wilder lived here, and a description of the what the property was used for. So we took pictures of all those signs, and then what those places look like today.

The Laura Ingalls Wilder Memorial Society has a small museum, and offers a tour of some homes it has on its property, as well as the house Mr. Ingalls built in town, and still standing in its original location. First to see is the Surveyor's house, where the Ingalls family first lived when they arrived in town.
Next was the school Laura and her younger sister Carrie attended.

Next was the Brewster School, which was were Laura first taught school.
And last was the house Mr. Ingalls built downtown, after he had given up his land claim where the Ingalls Homestead is now. This house also started small, and had additions made as time went by.
After the tour, we took a drive north (less than a mile) to see the marker where Laura and her husband first staked their land claim after they were married.
