Wednesday, December 4, 2019 (continued) -- A visit to Tucson, Arizona is not complete without exploring Mission San Xavier del Bac! This 1783 Mission Church is breathtaking, and an excellent example of Spanish Colonial architecture!
This Mission Church is on the O'odham Indian Reservation and was built to serve the needs of the people on this reservation, as it still does today.

The inside of the Mission is incredibly beautiful! The Mission is open to the public, for free, Monday thru Saturday. But visitors should be aware this is an active and living church, and local parishioners may be there saying prayers. Respect and courtesy are expected, and men must remove their hats when entering the building!
The paintings and statues are just amazing! So much detail!
One of the exterior doors that leads out to the garden -- solid wood!
The Mission Church is completely landscaped, and has many varieties of Cacti that we haven't seen before!
There is also a Museum on the property, giving more information about the church's history.
In front of the church is a special circle, which we assume must be used for special ceremonies.

On the side of the mission is Grotto Hill, which has a shrine embedded into a section of the hill and is used for quiet reflection and prayers.
Across the street, there was this little mall area. There is a space for a small restaurant, but that section was closed, and only a couple of vendors were located in here.
But Ed did get this awesome picture of a Roadrunner in the landscaping. It's almost like he was posing for the picture!
Before we left, we got some food from one of the O'odham Indian vendors in front of the church. Best frybread I have ever tasted, and their beef and red chile frybread had an awesome flavor, even though it was very spicy hot!
Mission San Xavier del Bac was an awesome experience, and we highly recommend visiting this area!
