Honeysuckle Meadows RV Park Review: Spacious Camping Near Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg
Finding a campground near Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg can be challenging, especially if you don’t want to spend your vacation packed tightly between other RVs.
During our visit to the Great Smoky Mountains, we stayed at Honeysuckle Meadows RV Park in Wears Valley, Tennessee, and one thing immediately stood out: space.
After seeing some of the much more crowded RV parks around the area, we were very happy with our choice. Between the large campsites, mountain views, swimming pool, fishing pond, and peaceful surroundings, Honeysuckle Meadows gave us a comfortable home base for exploring Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and the Smokies.
Our First Impression of Honeysuckle Meadows
We have to admit, our first impression as we drove in wasn’t quite what we expected.
Near the entrance was an area with quite a few RVs in long-term storage. For a moment, we wondered what we had gotten ourselves into.
But once we drove beyond that area and reached the actual campground, everything changed.
The campground opened up into a beautiful, spacious property with plenty of grass and wonderful views of the Smoky Mountains in the distance.
It certainly didn’t feel like one of those RV parks where you’re squeezed into a tiny space with your neighbor’s slide practically touching yours.
Spacious RV Sites
This was probably our favorite feature.
We stayed in Site 23, and there was an impressive amount of room between us and the neighboring RVs.
The campground is laid out so that many of the sites function as pull-through sites, with plenty of grassy space for maneuvering.
Our site was:
- Full hookup
- Nice and level
- Easy to set up
- Spacious
- Equipped with a picnic table
- Equipped with a fire ring
And, of course, we had General with us—but you’ll have to bring your own dog. He wasn’t included with the campsite!
We also had a wonderful view from the windows of our trailer. Even when neighboring sites were occupied, we never felt like everyone was sitting right on top of one another.
After seeing some of the tighter campgrounds around Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, we appreciated that tremendously.
Smoky Mountain Views
It’s hard to complain when the Great Smoky Mountains are your backdrop.
The open layout of Honeysuckle Meadows allowed us to enjoy beautiful mountain views without leaving the campground.
That’s part of what made this location so enjoyable. We could spend the day visiting the busy tourist areas and then return to a campground that felt much quieter and more relaxed.
For us, that was a great combination.
Swimming Pool and Deli
Honeysuckle Meadows also had a very nice swimming pool area.
It was clean and well maintained, with plenty of parking nearby. There was also a small deli/concession area where you could pick up something to eat or grab a cold drink.
We always appreciate campgrounds that have a few conveniences available without requiring you to drive into town every time you need something small.
Fishing Pond
If fishing is more your speed, the campground also had a stocked fishing pond.
It wasn’t an enormous lake, but it provided another relaxing activity right at the campground. They even sold bait, making it easy to spend a quiet afternoon fishing without going anywhere.
Between the pool, fishing pond, picnic areas, and open grassy spaces, there was plenty to do without leaving the property.
A Peaceful Base for Exploring Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg
One of the biggest advantages of staying in Wears Valley was being close enough to enjoy the attractions around Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and Great Smoky Mountains National Park without camping right in the middle of all the congestion.
That mattered to us.
We enjoy sightseeing and visiting popular destinations, but when we’re finished exploring for the day, it’s nice to return somewhere with a little breathing room.
Honeysuckle Meadows gave us that.
What Did It Cost?
When we stayed at Honeysuckle Meadows, our site was approximately $45 per night.
That was a little pricey by our standards at the time, since we were traveling America on a pretty tight campground budget.
However, after seeing some of the other RV parks in the area, we felt much better about what we were getting for the money.
The large site, full hookups, beautiful setting, mountain views, and extra space made the higher nightly rate easier to justify.
Keep in mind: That was the price during our 2019 visit. Campground rates and amenities can change, so be sure to check current information before planning your stay.
The One Thing We Didn’t Like
No campground is perfect, and Honeysuckle Meadows had one significant drawback for us:
There was no laundry facility.
For weekend campers, that probably wouldn’t matter at all.
For full-time RV travelers, however, laundry facilities are extremely convenient. When your RV is your home, eventually those clothes have to get washed!
If Honeysuckle Meadows had offered an on-site laundry facility, Ed said he would have given the campground a five-star rating.
Without it, we’d knock the rating down a little—but it was still one of the nicest options we saw in the area.
Would We Stay at Honeysuckle Meadows Again?
Absolutely.
The lack of laundry was inconvenient, but it wasn’t enough to outweigh everything we liked about this campground.
We especially appreciated:
- Large, spacious campsites
- Full hookups
- Level sites
- Plenty of grassy space
- Swimming pool
- Fishing pond
- Picnic areas
- Beautiful Smoky Mountain views
- Peaceful atmosphere
- Convenient location for exploring the area
If you’re looking for RV camping near Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg but don’t want to feel like you’re camping in a parking lot, Honeysuckle Meadows is definitely worth considering.
For us, having some extra space and a beautiful view waiting at the end of a busy sightseeing day made all the difference.
