Rutledge Lake RV Resort Review: A Great Campground Near Asheville & Biltmore Estate

When you’re planning a visit to Asheville, North Carolina, one of the biggest questions is where to stay.

There are plenty of campgrounds in the area, but finding one that’s close to the city’s attractions while still offering a peaceful setting can be a challenge.

During our travels, we spent several days at Rutledge Lake RV Resort in nearby Fletcher, North Carolina, and found it to be an excellent home base for exploring Asheville, the Biltmore Estate, and the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains.

Here’s what we thought after our stay.

A Convenient Location Near Asheville

One of the campground’s biggest advantages is its location.

Rutledge Lake RV Resort sits in Fletcher, North Carolina, approximately 15 miles south of downtown Asheville.

The drive into the city was quick, easy, and scenic, making it an ideal location for visiting attractions such as:

• Biltmore Estate
• Blue Ridge Parkway
• Downtown Asheville
• Local restaurants and breweries
• Shopping districts
• Scenic mountain drives

For us, it was close enough to enjoy Asheville without feeling like we were camping in the middle of the city.

A Beautiful Private Lake

The centerpiece of the campground is its picturesque lake.

Whether you’re relaxing beside the water, watching the geese wander through the campground, or simply enjoying your morning coffee, the lake creates a peaceful atmosphere throughout the property.

Guests can also rent:

• Canoes
• Paddle boats

It’s a fun way to spend a quiet afternoon without ever leaving the campground.

Several premium campsites even overlook the lake, giving campers beautiful waterfront views throughout their stay.

Spacious Campsites

We were very pleased with our campsite.

Our site offered:

• Plenty of room for both our trailer and truck
• Wide spacing between neighboring campsites
• Crushed gravel pad
• Easy leveling
• Full hookups

One feature we especially appreciated was the crushed gravel.

After several heavy rains, the campsite drained exceptionally well.

Instead of tracking mud into the trailer every time we stepped outside, the gravel stayed clean and dry.

Sometimes it’s the small details that make a campground especially comfortable.

Swimming Pool and Recreation

Rutledge Lake offers several amenities that make it especially appealing for families.

The swimming pool sits near several of the RV sites and was popular with families during our stay.

Although some campers might worry about the extra activity, we actually enjoyed hearing children having fun in the evenings.

The campground also features a recreation center with:

• Pool tables
• Indoor games
• Gathering space

It’s a nice place to relax when the weather isn’t cooperating.

Camp Store and Propane

The campground’s general store offers a variety of convenience items for campers.

You’ll also find an on-site propane filling station, which is always helpful when you’re traveling full-time and don’t want to search for propane suppliers in an unfamiliar town.

Having those services available inside the campground makes longer stays much easier.

Walking Trails for You and Your Dog

General especially enjoyed this campground.

A walking trail winds through a wooded section of the property, giving us a peaceful place for our daily walks.

Combined with the open grassy areas around the lake, there was plenty of room for both exercise and relaxing strolls.

For anyone traveling with pets, it’s always nice to find campgrounds that offer comfortable places to walk without needing to leave the property.

Laundry and Bathhouses

The campground also provides clean laundry facilities and well-maintained bathhouses.

Everything we used during our stay was clean, functional, and conveniently located.

While these aren’t the most exciting campground features, they’re certainly among the most important when you’re traveling for weeks or months at a time.

Rates and Value

At the time of our visit, rates were approximately:

• Sunday through Thursday: $48 per night
• Friday and Saturday: Slightly higher
• Senior Discount: 10% for guests 55 and older
• Weekly Rate: Reduced the nightly average to around $40

The campground was above our usual camping budget.

However, because accommodations around Asheville fill quickly—especially during busy travel seasons—we felt the location and amenities justified the higher price.

Considering how convenient it was for visiting Asheville and Biltmore Estate, we’d happily stay here again.

• Canoe and paddle boat rentals
• Walking trail

• Friendly atmosphere

We honestly struggled to find anything negative to say.

It was simply a very enjoyable campground.
